SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Matt Amenta Loves shopping, so not getting to visit his favorite stores at the Santa Maria Town Center has him feeling bored during the coronavirus pandemic. "There’s nothing to do! There’s nowhere to shop. Social gatherings are way down which we knew which we did for a reason."
But that’s all going to change at the mall where managers say they are “eagerly preparing to reopen in the near future.”
In the mean time some mall stores including Gina’s Piece of Cake are offering curbside pickup.
"We have a back door and so we have been picking up business, which is good you know, I’m thankful we still have a job and we could help out the community. Since we’ve been getting so many orders I think we’re actually going to start opening up Saturdays now so will be five days a week," said Joseph Holicky with Gina's Piece of Cake.
Other tenants providing curbside service include Macy’s, World 1-1 Games, and Kay’s Jewelers.
While managers with the mall are still working out what day doors will open to the entire mall, Amenta says it will be worth the wait. "I was excited I was hoping it would be a little sooner, but I understand why it was the way it was. It would be nice to return to normalcy, have people going back to work and also to go shopping again."
