Goleta City Council votes to require customers, employees in essential businesses to wear face masks

GOLETA, Cailf. - The Goleta city council approved a resolution Tuesday evening that requires workers and customers in essential businesses to wear face coverings. The resolution is meant to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The resolution was approved with a unanimous vote by the City Council.

It includes all essential businesses and organizations that are allowed to operate under the governor's stay-at-home order, not just food facilities.

The resolution says essential businesses will prohibit customers from entering if they are not wearing face coverings. Essential businesses are encouraged to sell face masks to patrons who do not have one.

Essential businesses are also required to provide face coverings for their workers and ensure they have access to clean, sanitary restrooms and cleansing products to comply with County health orders.

The city is also requiring workers to frequently wash and sanitize face coverings.

Goleta's resolution is effective immediately until the end of the local emergency or until it is ended by the City Council, City Manager/Director of Emergency Serivces.

Other cities that have passed similar resolutions include the cities of Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, Carson, Long Beach, Pasadena, Inglewood, Burbank, and Beverly Hills and the counties of San Bernardino and Riverside.
