Rincon Brewery Ventura partners with two nonprofits to deliver 1,500 meals to families in need
VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. - The owners and management team at Rincon Brewery Ventura decided to partner with nonprofit Kids & Families Together (K&FT) and Word Central Kitchen (WCK) to bring 1,500 meals to families in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Three weeks ago, the owners and management of Rincon Brewery reached out to WCK offering to reopen their Ventura restaurant to make a difference in the Ventura community.
Luisa Hyatt, one of Rincon Brewery’s owners, explained in a press release, “We started the first week with delivering meals to the hospital workers and First Responders (firefighters, police and AMR) in Ventura and SB Counties. During that first week the conversations between Rincon Brewery Ventura and WCK began to focus on the more urgent need really being with Kids and Families Together and the approval was given to make the switch. The First Responders were grateful for the week of meals and even more appreciative to have them go to families in need.”
Rincon Brewery then presented the idea to K&FT late in the afternoon on Thursday, April 16. Within three days, K&FT staff was prepared to distribute meals on Monday, April 20, to Ventura County Foster/Resource Families, Kinship Families, Adoptive Families, and Bio-families served by the agency.
Meal distribution takes place six days a week, from Monday through Saturday. Families receiving services from K&FT can receive meals each day for all members of their household.
K&FT said the meals are prepared on-site at Rincon Brewery Ventura the day before and refrigerated overnight for delivery the next day.
Prepared meals include Tis the Season Turkey Bowl with Oven Roasted Turkey with Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans & Pepper Corn Gravy and Chocolate Chipotle Chicken Mole, Diced Carrots, Peas & Corn with Tomatillo Spanish Rice, over a bed of Organic Arugula and garnished with Chive.
Rincon Brewery’s Chef, Steven Stroh even provides a daily message, a “love note,” explaining what each dish means to him.
After their first week, over 1,500 healthy meals were cooked and distributed to families across the county, from Ventura’s Westside to Oxnard and all the way out to Simi Valley.
