Carbajal, Caldwell headed to November runoff for 24th Congressional District seat

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - It will be a classic democrat verses republican congressional race for the 24th Congressional District in November. On Super Tuesday, Rep. Salud Carbajal and republican challenger Andy Caldwell went one-two.

Carbajal, the two-time democratic incumbent, received 54% of the vote. Caldwell, a political watchdog, pulling in 44% Tuesday night. The two separated by 11,806 votes.

Kenneth Young rounded out the field with just 3% of the vote.

"Based on the results we’re seeing, I’m proud that it seems Central Coast residents want me to continue fighting for those values in Congress," said Carbajal. "I thank everyone for voting and urge our community to keep this momentum up come November.”

The final tabulation of election results could take up to a week.

Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties along with a portion of Ventura County are part of the 24th Congressional District.
