CHP arrest two in high-speed car chase in Templeton
TEMPLETON, Calif. -- California Highway Patrol San Luis Obispo arrested two people after a high-speed pursuit on Highway 41 in Templeton on Tuesday.
Officers arrested Jonah Fernandes, 25, Corcoran and Brittany Hughartaguilar, 30, Hanford.
On Tuesday around 3:00 p.m. in the afternoon, CHP San Luis Obispo Area units were attempting to locate a stolen vehicle, a white 2014 Chevrolet Camaro.
The vehicle had fled from a traffic stop and was last seen driving on northbound Highway 101 while traveling at a high rate of speed on the Cuesta Grade.
CHP units lost visual of the suspect vehicle.
CHP Templeton and CHP San Luis Obispo Area units were on the lookout for the vehicle.
At around 3:34 p.m., a CHP Templeton Area unit located the vehicle traveling northbound Highway 41 near Homestead Road.
The CHP unit turned around and was attempting to overtake the vehicle.
The vehicle instead went around a sharp curve in the roadway while traveling at an unsafe speed. The vehicle eventually traveled off the roadway surface toward the right and the front end of the vehicle impacted an oak tree.
The driver, Fernandes, fled on foot and was later apprehended after a thorough search in the area was conducted.
The passenger, Hughhartaguilar, was taken into custody at the collision scene.
CHP Air Operations unit Helicopter-70, San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office and Atascadero Police Department personnel responded and assisted with conducting the search of the subject.
