MONTECITO, Calif. - Members of Santa Barbara Search and Rescue were notified that a tree had fallen onto the Cold Spring Trail in Montecito just one day before its grand reopening since the Montecito mudslides.

Crews located the medium-sized oak tree lying across a section of trail between the east and west fork intersection and the switchbacks Saturday afternoon.

A small team traversed the trail to cut up the fallen tree with chainsaws before hauling it away.

Search and Rescue said this removal was made to improve hiking safety and improve access for first responders during trail emergencies.

The team encourages everyone to enjoy the trail safely after its grand reopening on Sunday.
