SANTA MARIA, Calif. --The Santa Maria Recreation and Parks department is partnering with the Mayor's Youth Task Force for the new Winter Break Teen Pop up.

“[We] really wanna make sure that kids are having a great break, but while being safe," said recreation services manager Dennis Smitherman.

The effort brings free activities for teens on Christmas vacation at the Abel Maldonado and Minami Park youth centers.

“Both are gonna be filled with fun activities, sports games, arts and crafts,” said Smitherman.

The city provides these options for kids during the school year, but it's the first time this will be offered over the winter break.

“So [teens] can stay out of trouble and keep having a good time while school is out, but also being safe."

The teen pop up will be available through January 10th, with the exception of Christmas and New Year's Day.

“This is open for kids who have finished 6th grade, through seniors in high school," the recreation services manager said.

The Minami Community Center will be open from noon to 4:00 p.m.

The Abel Maldonado Youth Center will be open from noon to 8:00 p.m.
