Man in critical condition after shooting in Ventura, police searching for suspect

The Ventura Police Department is searching for a suspect in a late night shooting.

At around 11:15 p.m. Saturday, police received multiple reports of a shooting near the intersection of Simpson Street and Ventura Avenue.

Ventura police, city fire and ambulance responded to the scene and found a man suffering from several life-threatening gunshot wounds to the torso. He was transported to the hospital by ambulance for treatment. His condition is not clear at this time.

Police say a second victim, a 17-year-old boy, injured his hand while fleeing the area of the shooting. He was treated by medical personnel and released at the scene.

Witnesses said the shooter fled the scene in a dark colored vehicle.

Police remained at the scene with officers and police dogs searching for a suspect. Crime scene investigators also responded.

In a press release issued to our newsroom, police said the motive of the shooting was unclear.

No further information was made available Sunday morning.
