Santa Maria police release name of suspect in deadly shooting

The Santa Maria Police Department has released the name of the suspect in Sunday’s shooting that left a man dead.

Juan Carlos Hernandez, 29, of Santa Maria was identified as the suspect by police on Monday evening.

Hernandez is wanted in connection to the shooting death of 33-year-old Jose Medina Gonzalez of Santa Maria at 805 Tacos on West Main Street.

Medina Gonzalez suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene of the shooting.

Police say Hernandez was last seen fleeing the scene in a silver 2013 Honda Fit with California license plate number 6WTU141.

Hernandez is considered to be armed and dangerous.

SMPD is asking anyone with information on his whereabouts to not approach him and immediately call 911.
