Santa Barbara County Fire to hold oil spill drill at Goleta Beach

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department and other agencies are planning to conduct a oil spill drill next week.

The oil spill boom deployment drill will be held at Goleta Beach on Oct. 9

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife and the US Coast Guard will also participate in the drill.

During the drill, Santa Barbara County Fire resources and its water rescue equipment will be used to disperse oil spill booms during a mock release of oil at Goleta Beach.

The drill begins at 9 a.m. and will last until about 2 p.m.

Fire department equipment will be on scene in the Goleta Beach area for the drill, but no beach or road closures are expected to take place.
