Rollover accident sparks vegetation fire on Highway 166

A vehicle rollover sparked a vegetation fire along Highway 166, about 18 miles west of New Cuyama. Firefighters have since knocked the fire down.

The accident was reported just before 3:30 a.m. by a passerby in an area of the highway known as Spanish Ranch. The car then burst into flames and caught the surrounding vegetation on fire.

Winds in the area are reported at about 5 miles per hour, according to the First Alert Weather Center.

Firefighters arrived on the scene and stopped forward progress of the fire but officials were concerned about embers blowing and causing spot fires.

The three people involved in the accident suffered minor injuries. Two of them have been arrest for driving under the influence after allegedly trying to leave the scene.
