Brush fire near Pozo burns 55 acres, now 70% contained

Firefighters say a brush fire burning near Pozo in eastern San Luis Obispo County has burned 55 acres.

CAL FIRE San Luis Obispo originally said the fire had burned 100 acres as of Tuesday night, but firefighters were able to better assess the fire Wednesday morning.

They say the fire burned 55 acres in an area about 30 miles east of Pozo.

The fire is now 70 percent contained.

Firefighters expect to be on the frontlines of the fire through at least Thursday morning.

Investigators are looking into whether a car may have started the fire.

The fire was first reported around 7:20 p.m. Tuesday.

Crews from fire departments across the Central Coast were called in to provide mutual aid.

Pozo is a small community located east of Santa Margarita. It’s known for its historic Pozo Saloon, which has hosted some big-name musical acts over the years.
