Santa Barbara Humane Society offering free services to pet owners affected by shutdown

The Santa Barbara Humane Society has announced the organization plans to offer free services for pet owners who were directly impacted by the recent government shutdown.

Although the government is up and running for the time being, some federal employees may still be feeling the financial impact. The humane society wants to make sure that any pet owners don’t have to choose between feeding themselves or feeding their furry friends.

Pet food, cat litter, vaccinations, micro-chipping and nail trimmings are all being offered free of charge to anyone feeling the effects from the shutdown.

“We’re here to provide basic necessities for your pets in times of great need. We understand that pets are part of the family,” said Executive Director Kerri Burns. “Our goal is to help you keep your beloved pets in your own home. Please reach out to us if you need help in caring for your animals. It’s a win-win: if we can help you with your animal care needs, fewer pets will end up in shelters.”

Anyone interested in the services provided by the Santa Barbara Humane Society can stop by the center during work hours. A federal ID is not required to receive the services.
