Early morning head-on crash leaves one woman dead

A head-on collision early Thursday morning left one woman dead, and another man with injuries.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 7:20 a.m. on Los Osos Valley Road East at Valle Vista Place in San Luis Obispo.

The female driver of a 2003 Honda for unknown reasons drifted into the eastbound lane on Los Osos Valley Road heading in the wrong direction.

The driver of a 2008 Dodge was unable to move out of the way in time, and was hit head-on by the woman. An officer arrived on scene and found the 52-year-old woman was unresponsive.

The officer and another driver who stopped to help, pulled the woman from her car and the officer began to administer CPR until medical personnel arrived on scene.

The man and the woman were taken to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center.

The woman died at the hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.
