Police confirms missing Westmont College student found safe

Santa Barbara police have confirmed that missing Westmont College student, 22-year-old Mikaela Harwood, was found safe Thursday morning in Ventura.

SBPD says investigators are working to determine how the young woman ended up in the city of Ventura.

Investigators are also trying to determine if a crime is involved in this case.

No further details have been released.

INITIAL INFORMATION

The Santa Barbara Police Department is searching for a missing at-risk Westmont College student.

According to police, 22-year-old Mikaela Harwood was last seen around 7 p.m. Wednesday wearing a dark blue jacket and black leggings approaching Coast Village Road.

Harwood is described as an Asian female, 5-feet-7 inches tall, and weighs 116 pounds, police said.

Investigators say they are searching from Carpinteria to Hope Ranch and everything in between for Harwood.

Westmont College released the following statement:

The Westmont College community asks for assistance in locating one of our students, Mikaela Harwood, who was reported missing last night, Wednesday, September 26. She was last seen on Old Coast Highway near the roundabout about 7 p.m., presumably on a run.

If you have any information, please contact the Santa Barbara Police Department at 911 or their non-emergency line, 805-882-8900. Westmont is working closely with the authorities to find Mikaela.

We also ask for your prayers for Mikaela’s safe return and for her family and friends during this difficult time. Campus Pastor Scott Lisea will lead a prayer service for Westmont students at 12:35 p.m. on the lawn below Voskuyl Prayer Chapel.
