Santa Maria police respond to early morning stabbing at budget motel

Santa Maria Police are investigating a stabbing early Tuesday morning at a budget motel on South Broadway that sent an unidentified woman to the hospital.

It happened at about 2:35 a.m. at the Colonial Motel on the 1800 block of South Broadway.

Santa Maria Police and Fire responded and found a female victim with a stab wound or wounds.

Paramedics rushed the victim to Marian Regional Medical Center where she is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Santa Maria Police say they do not yet have a suspect in custody.

Officers went door to door at the motel asking guests if they saw or heard anything at the time of the stabbing.

One motel guest who did not wish to be identified said he heard what sounded like an argument coming from the parking lot of the motel, then saw the flashing lights of police and fire on scene.

No word yet on a possible motive for the stabbing.
