Deputies arrest man making threats in Solvang with handgun

A man pointing a gun at victim’s head while making threats was arrested in Solvang Friday morning.

Santa Barbara Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a man making threats with a handgun on the 600 block of Roskilde in the City of Solvang around 11:00 a.m.

57-year old Timothy Wayne Johnson from Solvang was reported to have pointed his gun at his victim’s head while making threats.

Before deputies arrived, Johnson fled the scene in his vehicle. It was reported that Johnson was in possession of an AK-47 rifle and other firearms and was also intoxicated. Deputies later learned that Johnson had posted “I’ll see you in the afterlife” on his social media account.

Deputies searched the area and located Johnson’s vehicle at the Mobil gas station on Highway 246 in Buellton. Deputies arrested Johnson at gunpoint due to his possession of guns. Deputies say Johnson initially refused to comply with the deputies’ verbal commands, but deputies were able to de-escalate the situation and take Johnson into custody.

Deputies located a .22 caliber rifle and an AK-47 rifle in Johnson’s vehicle. Deputies also found two additional handguns, one of which was used on the victim in Solvang, and a large cache of ammunition, and a high capacity AK-47 ammo drum at Johnson’s residence.

Johnson was booked at the Santa Barbara County Jail for making criminal threats, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a silencer, possession of an assault weapon, possession of large capacity magazine, and carrying a loaded firearm in public.

Johnson’s bail is set at $50,000.
