Crews battling brush fire between railroad tracks and U.S. 101 in Goleta
Firefighters are currently battling a brush fire that is burning in an area between Los Carneros Road and Fairview Avenue between the railroad there and U.S. Highway 101.
Traffic is slow through the area. At least one traffic lane of southbound Highway 101 from Los Carneros to Fairview Avenue will be closed while the scene continues to be active, according to the California Highway Patrol. Train service through the area has also been shut down for the time being.
A helicopter is making air drops on the fire on what is becoming an aggressive fire attack by firefighters.
The fire is less than an acre and forward progress has stopped, said Santa Barbara County Fire Capt. Dave Zaniboni. However, the fire is producing a significant amount of smoke in the area.

CHP reported the fire started just before 5 p.m. in heavy brush. It appears a nearby homeless encampment has been cleared of people by law enforcement but debris in the area began to serve as fuel for this fire, according to emergency traffic radio.
Fire crews will be on scene for a while putting out hot spots and mopping up. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
