Police pursue juveniles after widespread tagging crimes

With the help of an eyewitness, several Santa Barbara Police cornered two juveniles who were allegedly involved in a tagging spree on the Westside.

They were arrested by the Ortega Street footbridge about noon today.

Officers were on the railroad tracks and Wentworth Avenue when the youths were spotted and cornered.

The tagging vandalism was reported by a resident around Anapamu St. and San Pascual, in the area of Bohnett Park. There are multiple mixed tags in the area, on signs, bridges, and both private and public property.

The witness today said the suspects were using red paint. That could be seen by police officers investigating the report, in many locations.

A crime scene investigator took pictures throughout the area, and of the evidence located with the suspects.

One resident estimates the cleanup or repainting in the thousands of dollars.
