Child sent to hospital after traffic collision

A child was sent to the hospital after running into the roadway and being hit by an oncoming car in Santa Maria Monday night.

Santa Maria Police responded to the 800 block of West Harding Ave to a report of vehicle accident involving a child around 7 p.m.

Upon arrival, crews found a five-year old child lying in the roadway and the involved vehicle still on scene. After an investigation it was determined that the small child ran into the roadway into the path of the oncoming vehicle. According to Police the driver was unable to stop in time and struck the child.

The child was transported to Marian Medical Center with a non-life threatening injury. The driver was determined to be not at-fault and released from the scene.
