Boys & Girls Club in Santa Barbara celebrates 80 years

The Boys & Girls Club of Santa Barbara is celebrating 80 years of helping kids and families in the community.

The organization said 7,000 kids in Santa Barbara County lack access to affordable childcare, both after school and during the summer break.

Many kids are left unsupervised and in some instances, unsafe environments.

Last year, staff noticed kids sitting on the sidewalk in front of the club during the summer morning hours. Their parents couldn’t afford to pay for a full day of summer camp.

In previous years, the cost was $50 per week. This summer, the cost will be cut in half to $25 so that more kids can enjoy games, activities, sports, learning experiences and trips.

The Boys & Girls Club will also host its Annual Gala at Heartstone Ranch in Carpinteria on Saturday, May 12. Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson and Assemblywoman Monique Limón will present a joint resolution honoring the Club’s 80 years in the community.
