Suspect search operation underway near Gibraltar Road, Santa Barbara County

A search operation is underway on Tunnel Trail near Gibraltar Road in unincorporated Santa Barbara County for an individual reportedly carrying a gun.

The incident was reported at about 2 p.m. as a possible medical emergency on Monday.

Personnel from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office, including Search and Rescue, and the Santa Barbara County Fire Department have been called to the scene. Helicopter support has also been requested by officials on the ground.

While details are limited, one of our news crews on scene says fire personnel said a hiker stumbled upon an unconscious man who woke up and became confrontational before leaving the area. There are also reports that same man was carrying a gun, but those reports are unfounded at this time.
