Coalition Against Gun Violence holds annual fundraiser

The non-profit Coalition Against Gun Violence (CAGV) held its 23rd-anniversary fundraiser and celebration at the Santa Barbara Club on Sunday.

California State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson, Congressman Salud Carbajal and Supervisor Das Williams were on hand to speak about current gun violence legislation.

The event also included a traditional bell ceremony honoring those who have lost their lives to gun violence. Special mentions included the victims of the Goleta Post Office shooting, the Isla Vista Tragedy and the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting.

The coalition said 33,000 people are killed by guns every year in the U.S.

CAGV is holding a Gun Buyback event on Saturday, May 12 at the Earl Warren Showgrounds. It starts at 8 a.m. and ends at noon. People can remain anonymous.
