Free Montecito rocks in county pile brings out many takers

A pile of rocks and fill dirt from the Montecito disaster zone has become a popular spot for those looking for just the right stone for their property.

The Santa Barbara County Public Works Department has a rock stack on 4430 Cathedral Oaks Road with an open parking area in front of it.

That’s been the place for those looking to pick up the free rocks to stack them in their trucks or cars and take them off to home projects.

Some were looking for just the right size to border a garden or to build a small wall.

The rocks will be available through Monday .

Nearby the county also has free mulch.
