Pursuit and lengthy Santa Barbara neighborhood search leads to two arrests

A reported domestic violence situation led to a Santa Barbara police chase Friday morning, then a lengthy search, before two suspects were arrested.

About 8 a.m. police responded with multiple units to the upper State Street area when a witness saw what appeared to be a gun inside a vehicle while a man and woman were in a conflict.

When the car was found, the driver allegedly tried to elude police and ended up crashing into another vehicle at the corner of De la Vina and Alamar, then hitting a pole.

29-year old Dustin Childers was arrested on the scene, and taken to Cottage Hospital with minor injuries.

A BB gun was reported located in the car by detectives.

The driver, Maryam Burgazi was the focus of a three-hour search that first brought multiple officers to an address on Lucinda Lane. Occupants inside did not immediately open the door for police, and one went into the back of the house. Eventually, four people were brought outside and questioned, but the suspect was not located.

Later in the morning, police learned a woman, fitting the description of Burgazi was seen in and out or yards and the creek bed on Miradero Drive.

Officers went into the creek, established a perimeter and caught up with Burgazi about 11:30 a.m.

Both Childers and Burgazi were arrested on numerous charges related to domestic battery and hit and run causing an injury.

No citizens were injured in the chase or at the crash scene.
