Suspicious item found in patient’s room at Lompoc Valley Medical Center

Lompoc Valley Medical Center released the following information regarding the Friday police activity:

Just after 8 a.m. Friday, March. 2, 2018, a suspicious item was found in a patient room in the Medical-Surgical Department of Lompoc Valley Medical Center.

The Lompoc Police Department was called to investigate. The initial assessment was that the item was a low-level risk. The item was contained in an area away from any patients or staff.

Lompoc Police Department authorities contacted the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department, and Bomb Squad officers were sent to investigate.

The Bomb Squad unit took control of the item and rendered the device inert around noon.

The item was determined by the Sheriff’s Department to be a piece of pipe. Lompoc Valley Medical Center exercised all precautions during the situation.

Some portions of Seventh Street were closed to vehicles and pedestrians during this incident.
