Standoff, elementary school lockdown ends in Santa Maria

UPDATE:

A standoff has concluded following a domestic violence incident in Santa Maria.

A man and woman surrendered peacefully to police at 1:10 p.m. Friday afternoon, but no arrests have been made.

Investigators are still on scene, but East Seaward Drive on the north side of Santa Maria is expected to re-open shortly.

The lockdown at Taylor Elementary School ended just before 12:00 noon.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Santa Maria police officers are working a domestic violence stand off situation in the city.

Police responded to a report of a gunshot in a home along the 1300 block of East Seaward Drive around 9:30 a.m. Officers said a man and woman are inside the home.

A confrontation with the man occurred and a non-lethal shot was fired into the home.

Stand-off crisis negotiators are on scene to help bring the incident to end peacefully. It is not known if the are other people inside the home.

The surrounding neighborhood residents were asked to shelter in place by police.

Near-by Taylor Elementary School was placed on a precautionary lockdown for about an hour.
