The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office and other public safety officials have issued a ‘Voluntary Evacuation’ for Matilija Canyon, Hwy 33 N. Fork, and the Vista Burn area in Ventura County.

The ‘Voluntary Evacuation’ became effective at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2018. For the latest evacuation status, click here.

The forecast shows cumulative rainfall totals of 0.5 to 1.0 inches along the coast and coastal hills and up to 3 inches in the mountains. The storm is expected to move through Ventura County between midnight and 5 a.m. Friday morning.

Officials say that this storm is expected to be less intense with no thunderstorms forecasted and with lower totals than the January 9 storm.

The National Weather Service shows rainfall with the potential to reach 0.3 to 0.6 inches per hour. Rain intensity is expected to occur in the Matilija Watershed and favored up-slope areas like Nordhoff Ridge and White Ledge. Officials say a slight increase in rain rates could reach the minimum debris flow thresholds for these areas.

If residents observe worsening or dangerous conditions they are advised not to wait for instructions from local authorities and evacuate the area immediately.

As of March 2 at 4:30 a.m., Highway 33 above Ojai is closed at Fairview Road due to mud and debris flow resulting from rainfall. For more information visit https://www.vcemergency.com.
