Couple accused of burglarizing marijuana farm in Carpinteria

Two people face multiple criminal charges in connection with a burglary that occurred at a pot farm in the 5100 block of Foothill Road in the unincorporated area of Carpinteria.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office says it received a report of trespassing and vandalism at an orchard on Foothill Road at about 9 a.m. Dec. 26.

“While on scene, deputies found that it appeared the suspects had actually accessed the orchard to cut a hole into the fence of a bordering property. Deputies found that the suspects had used the hole to access and burglarize that property which was found to be a marijuana farm. The farm owner was contacted and confirmed the burglary and provided a list of stolen items,” stated a news release by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation led authorities to a motel in the 4200 block of Via Real in Carpinteria where they contacted 48-year-old Ventura resident Patrick Carty and 30-year-old Courtney Wallace of San Diego.

The two were found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine and were arrested, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The Sheriff’s Office says deputies also found over 50 pounds of marijuana and marijuana plants, burglary tools and other items belonging to the victim’s farm. That property was later returned to the owner.

Carty and Wallace were booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail with bail set at $20,000 for burglary, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, vandalism, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and conspiracy.
