Flu season is here and public health officers recommend getting vaccinated

A flu shot clinic that took a break last year made a comeback on Wednesday night at the Goleta Valley Community Center.

The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department and the Santa Barbara County Medical Reserve Corps provided the free shots.

They made sure to have a TV turned on to the Dodger game, but volunteers think the game hurt the turn out.

The staff made it quick and easy to get the free shot.

Patients just had a fill out a quesionairre.

Emergency preparedness manager Jan Koegler said, “We want everyone to protect themselves, also in that way they can protect other people around them, so there are people who are more vulnerable to the flu, like the elderly people with asthma and small children, so it is really important that of all us get our flu shot so we can protect them.”

People can get flu shots at their doctor’s office, public health departments or local pharmacies.

It is recommended for adults and children at least 6 months of age.
