Teen arrested after allegedly confessing to driving car that killed SLO man
A 17-year-old teenage girl from Los Osos is under arrest and facing felony charges stemming from a hit-and-run that killed a 22-year-old San Luis Obispo resident on Aug. 29.
The victim has been identified by authorities as Kennedy Love, 22.
The San Luis Obispo Police Department said they received a 911 call at 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday regarding a crash in the area of Foothill Boulevard and Ferrini Road involving a bicyclist.
The caller told police the vehicle had fled the area following the crash and the bicyclist, later identified as Love, was lying on the roadway and not breathing. Despite lifesaving efforts from SLO police officers and paramedics, Love was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses told police they had seen a car enter the Panda Express parking with damage to the front driver’s side window. SLO police said two girls were seen exiting the car and assessing the damage before getting back into the car and leaving the parking lot.
At about 1 a.m., officers located the suspect car abandoned on Tassajara Drive near Luneta Drive. Officers were able to identify the owner of the car and traveled to Los Osos where the SLO Police Department said the teen suspect confessed to driving the car that killed Love.
Police also said the teen confessed to drinking alcohol prior to the crash, and she was placed under arrest for vehicular manslaughter, felony DUI, and felony hit-and-run. The name of the suspect was not released by authorities because she is underage.
