Get to know 2017 Jr. Spirit of Fiesta Eve Flores
This 5th grader from Hope School was chosen from 12 other performers to represent the Santa Barbara community as the 2017 Junior Spirit of Fiesta–meet Eve Flores.
Eve enjoys reading for a number of reasons including making her a better student in school, using her imagination–she loves fictional books–and above all, serving as a fun and educational activity she can do with her sister.
Art, Science, and History are Eve’s favorite subjects in school. She considers herself fortunate that she gets to learn more about Santa Barbara history through her new role as Junior Spirit.
Eve loves Flamenco dancing because it allows her to express herself in many different ways.
As Eve will tell you, Flamenco dancing is a family affair that first started when her older sister signed up for dancing lessons. Now, Eve’s youngest sister is following in her footsteps.
“I tell her to make sure she smiles when she’s up on stage and make sure she’s not shy, and that she just gives it her all,” says Eve. “Just try your 100 percent and you can achieve anything, and just keep going and keep trying harder, and harder each time.”
Just like her big Fiesta Spirit sister, Norma Escarcega, Eve gets her day started early in the morning. She gets into one of her dozens of Fiesta dresses while her mom puts on her makeup and off she goes to meet with sponsors, the press, attend events, and get to her 14 dance classes on time.
Eve is looking forward to dancing at Fiesta Pequena at the Old Mission Santa Barbara on August 2, 2017.
“I’m looking most forward to dancing at the Mission because I’ll finally, like really, really experience what it’s like to be Junior Spirit, and to see all the people watching, and it’s going to be very beautiful,” says Eve.
Eve will lead the Children’s Parade down State Street this Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 10 a.m. For more information visit http://oldspanishdays-fiesta.org.
