Sailors compete in the 40th annual McNish Classic off the coast of Ventura County

The skipper who crossed the finish line first and won his weight in champagne during the 40th annual McNish Classic Yacht Race was none other than Dick McNish.

McNish, who celebrated his 90th birthday at the Pacific Corinthian Yacht Club last month, created the race four decades ago to give classic yacht crews from California some friendly competition.

Kevin Dickman shared video of McNish’s crew on board Cheerio II on Saturday.

McNish keeps the all-wooden sailboat, once owned by actor Errol Flynn, in top racing condition.

Other competitors came from yacht clubs in Santa Barbara, Newport Beach and San Diego.

They raced about 17 miles off the coast of the Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard.

The names of winners in a number of categories will be engraved on trophies.
