Ventura police officer transported to hospital with self-inflicted gun shot wound

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that occurred in a locker room at the Ventura Police Department.

A 47-year-old Ventura police officer was transported to the hospital for treatment of what appeared to be a self-inflicted gun shot wound.

The male officer was found by his fellow officers who provided medical aid while emergency personnel were en route.

The officer was taken into the hospital in critical condition and was immediately taken into surgery. His condition is unclear at this time.

No other officers were injured in the incident.

The shooting is under investigation by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office and the Ventura County District Attorney Office.
