Crews stop small brushfire near Highway 246 roundabout from spreading

Fire crews made quick progress on a vegetation fire that broke out before 1:00 p.m. Thursday along Armour Ranch Road off Highway 154 in the Santa Ynez Valley.

The 11-acre vegetation fire was 80 percent contained as of 2:00 p.m.

Engines responded near the heavily traveled roundabout and within minutes, a water-dropping helicopter was called out.

No structures were threatened.

Crews were able to stop the grass-fueled flames before they spread to a larger section of the dry grass field. A call for air tanker assistance was canceled a short time later.

The California Highway Patrol traffic incident website indicated that a semitrailer was parked nearby. It was unclear whether the semi was related to the fire in any way.

Emergency scanner traffic indicated there are wires down and the roundabout will be closed to eastbound traffic until Edison crews can make repairs.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
