Two killed after vehicle rear ends semi truck near Guadalupe

Two people were killed Monday evening after the vehicle they were riding in collided with the back of a semi truck off of California State Route 1 south of Guadalupe.

The crash occurred just before 7 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 1 and Brown Road.

According to Santa Barbara County Fire Captain Dave Zaniboni, a passenger vehicle collided with the back of the semi truck and was partially trapped underneath the semi truck’s trailer.

The two occupants of the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi truck was uninjured.

Traffic was slowed and diverted as investigators worked the scene. Railroad traffic was also delayed for a short period of time.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

The crash took place a mile from a major injury crash that occurred on the same road way just two hours earlier.
