Man airlifted to hospital after vehicle slams into power pole near Guadalupe

Santa Barbara County emergency personnel responded to the scene of a violent crash involving one vehicle just outside Guadalupe Monday evening.

According to the California Highway Patrol log, a gray Chevrolet Silverado crashed into a railroad crossing arm and sheared a pole off just before 5 p.m. near Brown Road and W. Betteravia Road.

A Verizon cable pole and the railroad crossing arm were severely damaged.

Santa Barbara County Fire Captain Dave Zaniboni said the vehicle’s sole occupant suffered major injuries and was airlifted to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital via CalStar.

The driver was identified as an adult male. His current condition is unclear at this time.

A second crash was reported on the same stretch of road just over a mile apart less than two hours later.
