Cypress Place honors veterans with holiday salute

Cypress Place Senior Living hosted a special “Salute To Our Veterans” celebration on Wednesday in Ventura

A military Color Guard presentation by 1st Memorial Honors Detail kicked off the ceremony.

Captain Chris Janke, Commanding Officer of Naval Base Ventura County, gave the keynote address.

Veterans received decorative medals in honor of their service.

A flag folded during TAPS was presented to 93 year-old Cypress Place resident and former United States Army Air Corps Sergeant, Richard Klock.

A retired Bell UH-1 “Huey” MEDEVAC Army helicopter was on display along with a war memorabilia collection.

The US Department of Veterans Affairs estimates only 620,000 of the 16 million Americans who served in World War II were alive in 2016.

There are 40 resident Veterans of World War 11 and the Korean War staying at Cypress Place Senior Living in Ventura.
