Victims in fatal Gibraltar Road crash identified

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office has identified the two victims killed in Monday night’s crash on Gibraltar Road as 17-year-old Lily Afton Brennan and 19-year-old Lesli Michael Sandoval Nunez. Both were from Ventura.

The two women were among five occupants in a 2005 Volkswagen Passat that fell 300 feet down a steep embankment.

A Calstar helicopter was dispatched to the scene to ensure the crash survivors received the help they needed as quickly as possible. A Santa Barbara County Fire paramedic was lowered down to the wreckage to package the most critical victims. One by one, the victims were taken to a landing site where the Calstar helicopter flew them to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team and fire personnel spent several hours helping to extricate a third victim that had suffered minor injuries. That person was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The Search and Rescue team then worked to remove the bodies of Brennan and Nunez from the wreckage.

The driver of the car, Brandon S. Woodward, 19, was arrested for DUI.
