Driver arrested for DUI in deadly Gibraltar Road crash

The California Highway Patrol released additional details on Monday night’s deadly crash on Gibraltar Road in Santa Barbara County on their collision report.

CHP said they arrested the driver of the 2005 Volkswagen involved in the crash for driving while under the influence of alcohol. He has been identified as 19-year-old Ventura resident Brandon S. Woodward.

Investigators said Woodward suffered major injuries along with a 16-year-old teenage girl who was riding in the same car at the time of the crash. A 19-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries according to the CHP traffic collision report. All were taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

Two other passengers suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities have not been released.

CHP said the crash occurred at about 9:23 p.m. when Woodward was driving southbound on Gibraltar Road and lost control of his vehicle and drove off the roadway into a steep embankment rolling over several times.

The car came to a stop 300 feet down the embankment.
