Brush on fire behind winery near Santa Maria

Crews with the Santa Barbara County Fire Department battled a brush fire on the 4700 block of Santa Maria Mesa Road Monday afternoon.

Crews were sent to the area just after 3 p.m. The fire is burning up a hillside behind the CLV Winery located on the 4600 block of Santa Maria Mesa Road, just down from the initial call site.

Firefighters on scene said the fire is holding at seven acres as of Monday evening. The fire is expected to be contained to 10 acres, according to Santa Barbara County Fire Capt. Dave Zaniboni. He said there’s little potential the fire will grow beyond 10 acres.

One water-dropping air tanker was called in. California Highway Patrol said the fire did not block traffic flow. Dozers and a hand crew were also on scene cutting a line around the fire.

No structures were threatened.
