U.S. Highway 101 crash kills Paso Robles man

The California Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash near the City of Paso Robles that killed 25-year-old Charles Dean Wyrick of Paso Robles.

CHP investigators said Ka Wai Chan, 24, was traveling along U.S. Highway 101 just south of Stockdale Road while Wyrick was driving behind him in another lane. At one point, Wyrick moved into Chan’s lane in order to pass slower moving traffic but then tried to change lanes again as he neared Chan.

That’s when, according to investigators, Wyrick collided with the left side of Chan’s car causing Wyrick to lose control and drive off the west road edge of Highway 101. The car then went down an embankment where it rolled over and ejected Wyrick.

Wyrick was taken to Sierra Vista Hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.

Investigators have not ruled out drugs or alcohol as a contributing factor in this deadly crash.
