Street lights restored in Hidden Valley neighborhood after outage
An emergency project to fix more than 50 street lights in a Santa Barbara neighborhood was completed.
Back in September, a viewer contacted NewsChannel 3 after she claimed her calls to Santa Barbara City Public Works Department weren’t returned.
“They don’t call us back. They don’t answer the phone, so we’re in limbo. No security, no street lights in the area,” said Joyce, a concerned resident.
Joyce requested to not publicize her last name. She has lived in the same neighborhood for 18 years. She spends a lot of time watching her cul-de-sac. On August 11, Joyce noticed the street light in front of her house go out. She waited for a few days before she notified Santa Barbara City Public Works Department. A couple of weeks after her interview, the pubic works department issued an update on an online website and mobile app called Nextdoor.com, notifying residents in the area about an impending project to fix the street lights.
Crews from Imperial Electric Company based in Goleta won the bid to fix the lights. They started in late September by removing 200 feet of wiring underneath the lights. The new system uses high-efficiency 3000K LED lighting with standard voltages.
