Two early morning crashes send multiple people to the hospital

Two separate crashes Tuesday morning send three people to the hospital.

The first crash happened just after 12:30 a.m. on Highway 246 at Via Juana Road in Santa Ynez. Only one vehicle was involved in a rollover that sent two people to Cottage Hospital with moderate injuries.

The second crash occurred just before 6 a.m. near Firefighter Road and Highway 1, outside Vandenberg Air Force Base. The California Highway Patrol said the driver of a blue Ford Taurus stopped on the side of the road but drove too far over the curb.

The driver over-corrected and ended up clipping a white Nissan Pathfinder. The extent of the Pathfinder driver’s injuries are unknown, but he was taken to Marian Regional Medical Center.

Highway 1 was closed in the immediate area while Vandenberg fire crews helped remove the cars out of the roadway.

Weather did not play a factor in this collision, according to CHP.

The CHP is investigating both Tuesday crashes.
