Driver trapped as vehicle plunges down ravine on Highway 154

Emergency crews are trying to get to a subject trapped inside a car that plunged about 100 feet off the roadway late Friday night.

The driver of the vehicle was traveling along Highway 154 when, for unknown reasons, lost control and fell down a ravine near San Antonio Creek Road at about 11 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol’s traffic incident webpage.

It’s believed the driver is the only occupant of that car. The driver’s injuries are unknown.

According to CHP reports, the driver was not able to exit the vehicle, honk the horn, or use the car’s headlights, but was attempting to use a cell phone light to help first responders locate him.

Emergency personnel were only able to locate the car after Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies reported the driver could hear Santa Barbara County fire trucks approaching the scene, according to CHP.

CHP has reported fog in the area where the crash took place. Traffic is moving in both directions of Highway 154. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
