Santa Barbara News-Press becomes first paper to endorse Trump

Presidential candidate Donald Trump received his first general election endorsement from a daily paper in Santa Barbara.

Last week, the Santa Barbara News-Press posted its endorsement for Trump on its website.

The daily newspaper publication first announced its support for Trump in June before the primary election.

“I don’t expect everybody to go one way. Heck no, this is a democracy, but I do expect that we have fair coverage and it’s not just taking lines and just repeating them over and over,” said Linda Dunn, from Camarillo.

Another newspaper has come out in support of Trump. The St. Joseph News Press published an editorial on Sunday endorsing the presidential candidate. The Missouri paper is owned by the same company that owns KEYT and KKFX.

Dennis Ellsworth, the executive director of News-Press Now, told us the editorial board has traditionally offered its opinion to readers. It didn’t want to dodge this election, even though it considers both candidates to be flawed.

We reached out to the owner and co-publisher of the Santa Barbara News-Press for a comment on the endorsement and an explanation on how the daily paper came to picking Trump, but did not get a reply.
