Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History Identifies Mysterious Fairy

A mysterious creature was brought to the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History on Wednesday. The creature was originally found in Mexico back in 2011 and since then it’s been known all over the internet and television as the “Mexican Fairy”.

The host of the TV series The Watchers, L.A. Marzulli, contacted Paul Collins who is a expert in Zoology at Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History. He wanted Collins to determine if the creature was the real deal or a hoax. Marzulli sent pictures and radio graphs of the creature and right away Collins had the answer.

“It’s a fraud, but all over the internet it says it’s real,” said Collins.

The fairy like creature was originally found back in 2011 before it was brought to Marzulli. Collins said a man from Mexico purchased it from an individual who found it on the side of the road for $10,000.

The creator of this creature glued together parts of two individual bats and reconstructed it as a fairy.

“If you look on the radio graph on this specimen it has a very human like head, but when you begin to look at it carefully the lower jaw all look to be bat,” said Collins. “Then you can see these small little lines and it’s the wing of a bat. So they took the outer part of two wings and then attached them on on the back of this carcass.”

This isn’t the first time people have recreated fictional creatures, and as Collins says it won’t be the last.
