SLO Man Faces Child Sexual Abuse Charges

A San Luis Obispo man is accused of sexually assaulting a then 10-year-old child.

SLO police arrested Matthew Roland Betts, 44, after an investigation that started Wednesday. The family of a now 13 year-old girl said they just learned of the alleged assault prior to calling police. The suspect, Betts, was a friend of the family when the crime is supposed to have taken place. During the investigation police said the girl disclosed Betts sexually abused her while he was staying in the family’s home.

Investigators said they were familiar with the suspect, because of an investigation involving Betts and similar circumstances. In March of 2016 police report Betts was at a friend’s house when he was seen committing a lewd act against an 8 year-old little girl. Betts was arrested and booked in that investigation.

Betts has once again been arrested, he is charged with Lewd acts upon a child, and Forcible acts of sexual penetration. Bail has been set at $250,000.
