Safe and Sane Fireworks Available for Purchase in Santa Maria

Safe and sane fireworks are now on sale in Santa Maria. For the non-profit groups selling the fireworks this is a way to bring in income for their organizations.

“This is our biggest fundraiser of the year,” says Matthew Tajon. He’s part of the New Beginnings Church in Santa Maria. This year, they are teaming up with Grace Lutheran Church.

“We are able to help our kids and our youth groups and do outreach and we are also helping Grace Lutherans pre-school,” he says.

Tajon says they are able to make on average about $10,000 to give back to their church.

Organizers say sales start up slow but, by the 3rd and 4th of July they will have lines wrapped all around their stands.

“Every year I come out and support different local ones,” says Donna Dominguez.
She says this is a family tradition to come and buy fireworks for the 4th of July.

For volunteers part of the Righetti High School Wrestling team they hope this year will be profitable.

“All of this money that is generated is allotted to the kids to go compete,” says Andrew Dominguez.

He has been coaching the team for the past 6 years and says this is the biggest fundraiser for the year.

“All said and done we end up making 13,000 for our program,” he says.

Santa Maria Police say safe and sane fireworks will only be able to be fired off on the 4th of July between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m.
