Police Identify Ventura Homicide Victim and Suspects in Deadly Afternoon Shooting

LATEST UPDATE

Ventura police identified the man killed in Wednesday’s shooting on the 4000 block of E. Main Street as 25-year-old Oxnard resident Cameron Miller.

The second victim’s name has not been released but police say he is a 21-year-old Oxnard resident.

The suspects have been identified as:

Richard Hernandez, 20 years old, from Oxnard
Alex Ramirez, 20 years old, from Ventura
Luis Aguilar, 19 years old, from Oxnard
and a 16-year-Old Oxnard girl whose identity is not releasable at this time.

Authorities booked Hernandez and Ramirez (pictured above) at the Ventura County Jail for murder, attempted murder and various street gang enhancements. Hernandez was also booked for hit-and-run causing injury and felony evading.

Aguilar and the 16-year-old teen were taken to Ventura County Medical Center to be treated for injuries they suffered in a car crash following a police pursuit less than an hour after the shooting and murder.

Aguilar will be booked at Ventura County Jail for murder, attempted murder, and gang crime enhancements once he is released from the hospital (no mug shot available yet). The teen will be facing the same charges but will be booked at Juvenile Hall.

Ventura Police now say their investigation into Wednesday’s homicide revealed that there were three verbal arguments between the suspects and the victims that occurred before the shooting.

“The first occurred near Del Taco in the 4300 block of East Main Street. The second occurred in the parking lot of Lassen’s in 4000 block of East Main Street. The last occurred in the parking lot west of Sizzler in the same area. At this time one of the suspects fired at least 3 shots at the victims striking Miller 2 times and the second victim once,” said Ventura Police Cmdr. Sam Arroyo. “The suspects got into the awaiting vehicle that was driven by the juvenile female and they fled the area traveling onto the eastbound 126 Freeway.”

At about 4:51 p.m., an officer patrolling the area of Victoria Avenue and Telephone Road spotted the suspect vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop in the area of Telegraph Road and Hill Street. The driver, now identified as Hernandez, refused to stop and raced eastbound on Telegraph Road at speeds reaching 100 mph.

The driver of the suspect car eventually crashed into a tree in the area of Telegraph Road and Cambria Avenue before fleeing from the car into a nearby orchard. He was found two hours later and taken into custody. The thee other occupants inside the suspect car were arrested immediately after crashing.

There were no injuries to law enforcement officers.

The Ventura Police Department is asking anyone who may have seen any of the altercations leading up to the shooting to contact Sgt. Matt Cain at 805-339-4488.

ORIGINAL STORY

Ventura police are currently on scene of a double shooting that occurred in the 4200 block of Main Street just before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers located two unidentified male victims suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the men was pronounced dead at the scene by medics. The other was taken to Ventura County Medical Center. His condition is unknown at this time but Cmdr. Thomas Higgins with the Ventura Police Department says the wounds are non-life threatening.

The 4200 block of E. Main Street is closed between Donlon Street and Callens Road. Additional closures include: Westbound Highway 126 at Main off ramp; Northbound U.S. Highway 101 at Main Street off ramp; Southbound U.S. 101 at Main Street off ramp closed.

Police say this is a very active scene and strongly encourage the public to avoid the area and use alternate routes. It’s not known when the roads will reopen but closures are expected well into the night.

Cmdr. Higgins said the incident began as a verbal argument in which the two victims were approached by two suspects and that’s when the shooting occurred. The suspects then got into a car and left the area.

About 25 minutes into the investigation, police spotted the suspect vehicle and a chase ensued, according to Cmdr. Higgins.

The pursuit ended in a fiery crash near Telegraph Road and Cambria Street, about four miles from where the shooting took place. Three suspects were detained on scene, a man and two women. The driver fled the area.

Cmdr. Higgins said about 30 minutes after the crash, the driver was located hiding in an orchard. The suspect was arrested without incident. All suspects are in custody, and police do not believe there is any danger to the public.

Police are not identifying any of the victims or suspects at this point.
